Jotting notes.

Personal blogs tell more truth than PR stints.

How can we judge who is telling the truth and who is not these days when money, fame, and publicity affects our decisions? With all the HGH, BALCO lab, and steriods stories still going on, just like many fans out there, I’m pretty darn sick of it. Especially the cases involving baseball. It just doesn’t mean that much to me as a sports fan because just because you can hit home runs doesn’t mean you can get victories for your team. But, you can get more dollars when negotiating your salary. If you need more proof, just google ’Alex Rodriguez.’

But, I did get a bit interested in one particular article involving another athlete in Track and Field. Last month, a witness alleged that Maurice Greene bought $40,000 worth illegal substances from him between 2003 to 2004. Not that it surprised me much — track and field has been the one sport that repeatedly has world record holders, olympic medalists, and world winners revealed as steriod cheaters. I read Maurice’s statements on these alleged claims which sounded shady at best. But, what was interesting was learning about the alleged e-mail his former training partner, Ato Boldon, had sent to Maurice’s former coach.

I really don’t buy all the crap these cheating athletes say to the media. Most often, they are rehearsed statements drafted by their legal anyway. But, if there’s one guy that has made me think that he’s clean and true to his sport, it’s Ato Boldon. I went to visit his website www.altoboldon.com and went through many of his blog posts. Those that are interested in this topic should check out some of Ato’s old blog posts. It was pretty neat to go back to read some of his thoughts.

At least I can cross my fingers and think that there’s at least one clean sprinter in the 1996-2004 era…
